Cavaliers center Isaiah Hartenstein has no intention of signing with Spanish club Barcelona, agent EJ Kusnyer told HoopsWire, refuting earlier reports.
HoopsWire sources indicated over the past two days that Barcelona intends to make Hartenstein a top target this offseason, assuming he opts out of his contract and enters free agency.
One international source stated Hartenstein would “100 percent” sign with Barcelona before another team, implying that Hartenstein would head overseas.
“That’s completely false,” Kusnyer told HoopsWire.
Hartenstein, 23, is 7-foot-0 and appeared in 16 games with the Cavs after a late-season trade with the Nuggets.
He has a player option on his contract for the veteran’s minimum, and could opt out in search of a multiyear deal after averaging career-highs of 8.3 points and 4.4 rebounds in Cleveland.
The Cavs are said to be more than open to such a deal, per multiple reports, given that Hartenstein admirably served as the primary backup to starter Jarrett Allen when healthy.
