Assistant Jamahl Mosley Expected To Leave Mavericks

Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley is likely to leave the organization after Jason Kidd is officially hired as head coach, according to Tim Cato of The Athletic.Jamahl Mosley

Mosely, 42, has been an assistant with the Mavericks since 2014. Before that, he was an assistant with the Cavaliers (2010-14) and Nuggets (2007-10). He spent two years in a player development role with the Nuggets from 2005-07.

The Mavericks are hiring Kidd as coach and Nike executive Nico Harrison as general manager, per multiple reports.

Mosley is noted for being a favorite of star guard Luka Doncic. While the decision doesn’t seem as if it will impact Doncic signing a supermax contract extension with the Mavs this offseason, some within the organization were pulling for Mosley to get the job, per Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News.

Kidd will replace Rick Carlisle, who stepped down after 13 years as coach and has since been hired by the Pacers. The move came one day after Donnie Nelson was let go as GM.

Mosley has been considered a candidate for multiple coaching vacancies over the past several seasons.
