Blazers President: Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum ‘Absolutely’ Returning

Trail Blazers president of basketball operations Neil Olshey said he doesn’t envision any major moves involving the core of the lineup, tackling the topic in a state-of-the-team address with reporters.

“We’ve got 80 percent of our starting lineup under contract and returning absolutely,” Olshey said, via Aaron J. Fentress of the Oregonian.Neil Olshey

The Athletic recently reported that rival teams are monitoring whether the Blazers might move Damian Lillard, and a CNBC report linked CJ McCollum to the Cavaliers.

But Olshey indicated neither player will be moved this summer. Starting center Jusuf Nurkic and forward Robert Covington are also under contract for next season.

“We’ll continue to try and grow and build assets so if an opportunity came up where a player was on the market and available and wasn’t pre-determining his destination, we can compete in terms of what assets we can convey to bring them to Portland,” Olshey said.

“We’re going to look to make our team better. Nothing is ever off the table if it advances us closer to a championship. But I’m not going to start bandying names about because people in the media think that there’s some pre-determined resistance to making a trade.”

Blazers guard Norman Powell has a player option on his contract, with forward Carmelo Anthony, forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and centers Enes Kanter and Harry Giles entering unrestricted free agency. Forward/center Zach Collins is a restricted free agent.

“We’ll continue to try and grow and build assets so if an opportunity came up where a player was on the market and available and wasn’t pre-determining his destination, we can compete in terms of what assets we can convey to bring them to Portland,” Olshey said.

The Blazers haver begun their search for a new coach after mutually parting ways with Terry Stotts after nine seasons. They have made the playoffs in each of the previous eight.
