Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal has been placed in Team USA’s health and safety protocol, leaving his status for the Tokyo Olympics in doubt.
Beal participated in all three of Team USA’s exhibition games and figures to be a main player for the Americans should he be able to go.
USA Basketball released a statement confirming that a member of the team had been placed in the health and safety protocol, but is not at liberty to name the player. Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press identified the player as Beal.
It is not clear if Beal was placed in the protocol because he himself tested positive for the coronavirus, or if he had potentially been exposed.
Beal scored 17 points, tying Kevin Durant for the team-high, in the USA’s exhibition win over Argentina on Tuesday in Las Vegas.
The Tokyo Olympics are scheduled to begin July 23, with Team USA’s first game is slated for July 25.
