Celtics Seeking Coach With NBA Playing Experience

The Celtics’ coaching search is focused on finding someone with NBA playing experience, according to Jay King of The Athletic.Ime Udoka

As King noted, several of the known candidates fit that description, from Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups to Nets assistant Ime Udoka to Bucks assistant Darvin Ham. All three are also reportedly candidates elsewhere, with Billups being granted a second interview with the Trail Blazers.

Per King, Billups worked with Celtics guard Marcus Smart and left Smart impressed. Billups could be the early favorite if Boston opts to go for a “headline-grabber,” King wrote.

Nets assistant Mike D’Antoni and Spurs assistant Becky Hammon have also been mentioned as possibilities in Boston.

New Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens is looking to replace himself after eight years on the bench and three trips to the Eastern Conference finals.
