While the NBA is bringing back the Las Vegas Summer League for rookies and free agents, it appears the same cannot be said of the California Classic, per Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee.
The California Classic is hosted by the Kings and held at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center, and has preceded the Vegas Summer League since its inception in 2018. Along with the Kings, the Classic featured the Warriors, Lakers and Heat, consisting of a three-day round-robin style tournament.
It was also staged in 2019 before being cancelled last summer because of the pandemic.
The Kings have not made a formal announcement, but Anderson cited a source in reporting that the organization does not intend to host the California Classic in 2021.
The Las Vegas Summer League is scheduled for Aug. 8-17 at the MGM Grand and again feature the vast majority of the 30 teams, as well as a team representing the G League.
California is planning to lift its coronavirus-related restrictions sometime in early June.
