Lakers’ LeBron James Switching Jersey Back To No. 6

Lakers star LeBron James will switch his jersey number from No. 23 to No. 6 next season, according to Shams Charania and Tim Cato of The Athletic.

James wore No. 6 while with the Heat, but changed back to 23 when he returned to the Cavaliers in 2014. He has kept the number since.LeBron James

Fellow Lakers star Anthony Davis will continue to wear No. 3, Charania and Cato wrote. Davis had worn No. 23 with the Pelicans, but changed upon the trade to the Lakers.

“When the Lakers inquired with the league about the jersey change, they were informed the March 15 deadline had passed,” reported Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. “However, the league would have allowed it if the team were able to work it out with Nike, the manufacturer of the jersey, sources said.”

James is starring in ‘Space Jam: The New Legacy,” due for release in July. The number change is expected to take place after that, Charania and Cato reported.

James, 36, is coming off the first first-round playoff exit of his career. He averaged 25.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.8 assists in 45 regular-season games. He has two years and about $86 million left on his contract.
