Mavericks star guard/forward Luka Doncic has joined the Slovenian men’s basketball team for practice ahead of next month’s qualifying tournament for Tokyo Olympics, as relayed by Antonis Stroggylakis of EuroHoops.
The Olympic qualifiers are scheduled for June 29-July 4 in in Kaunas, Lithuania. Doncic and Slovenia will play some warmup games vs. Croatia on Wednesday and Friday.
Slovenia has ever qualified for the Olympics, and is seeking a return to major international competition for the first time since 2017, when it won the EuroBasket tournament.
Doncic, 22, averaged 27.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 8.7 assists during the regular season and plans to sign a supermax contract extension with the Mavs this summer, per a report from The Athletic.
The Tokyo Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 23-Aug. 8.
