Beasley, 32, is 6-foot-9 and was selected by the Heat with the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2008. He last played pro basketball in 2019, with the Guangdong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association. His most recent NBA stint came with the Lakers in 2018-19.
Summer league teams are generally made up of recent draft picks, undrafted free agents and players with less than three years of NBA experience, making Beasley’s decision to join the Blazers unique.
Beasley actually played for the Heat on two occasions, as well as served three stints in China. Has has also spent time with the Timberwolves, Suns, Rockets, Bucks and Knicks.
He carries NBA career averages of 12.4 points and 4.7 rebounds, averaging 22.4 and 8.9, respectively, during his last stop in China.
The Blazers recently hired Chauncey Billups as head coach, replacing Terry Stotts after nine years and eight straight playoff appearances.
The Las Vegas Summer League will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion from Aug. 8-17 and each of the NBA’s 30 teams will be represented.
