NBA Scout: Sixers Should Sign Kyle Lowry, Keep Ben Simmons

At least one scout is in the corner of 76ers guard/forward Ben Simmons, telling Marc Narducci of the Philadelphia Inquirer that the Sixers should keep Simmons and sign Raptors free agent guard Kyle Lowry.Kyle Lowry

“I would move heaven and earth to try to bring him home,” the scout told Narducci of Lowry, a Philadelphia product. “He would be a natural for this team, a strong leader, and somebody who could take over the ballhandling load.”

Simmons has been the product of trade rumors since his subpar showing in the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Cavaliers, Kings, Pacers and Timberwolves are among the interested teams, per Marc Stein of the New York Times.

But the scout told Narducci called Simmons a “triple-double machine” and said that the Sixers don’t need to force a trade just for the sake of making one.

“To me Ben is a point forward and you can run offense through him,” he said. “I don’t like him as a primary ball handler, but he is a big wing who can make plays and run the pick and roll.”

Simmons, who turns 25 next week, averaged 14.9 points and 6.9 assists and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting last season.

Lowry, 35, averaged 17.2 points and 7.3 rebounds in 46 games. He has been linked to the Heat and several others, including the 76ers.
