Junior combo guard Duane Washington Jr. will remain in the draft and not return to Ohio State, he told ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.
Washington is 6-foot-3 and his stock has climbed steadily as he stood out at the G League Elite Camp, earning an invite to last week’s NBA Combine. He also “generated positive reviews” at the combine, Borzello reported.
Washington averaged 16.4 points and 2.9 assists last season, shooting 37 percent on 3-pointers. He is probably more of a shooting guard than point guard at the NBA level, though scouts seem to be OK with that.
Some of those scouts have told Hoopswire that Washington very well may have played himself into the second round of the draft.
As Borzello noted, he is currently ranked No. 82 in ESPN’s prospect rankings.
He is the son of former NBA guard Duane Washington, who appeared in 19 total games with the Nets (1986-87) and Clippers (1992-93).
