The Pelicans have received permission to interview Nets assistant Jacque Vaughn and Bucks assistant Charles Lee for their coaching opening, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Vaughn, 46, has been an assistant with the Nets since 2016, serving as the interim coach in March 2020 until the end of last season. He served as coach of the Magic from 2012-15, compiling a 65-161 record. The Nets went 7-3 under Vaughn before being swept in the first round of the playoffs.
Lee, 36, has been an assistant under Mike Budenholzer since 2014, first with the Hawks. Like Budenholzer, Lee has been with the Bucks since 2018. He has never been a head coach.
These interviews are just the beginning of the coaching search for chief of basketball operations David Griffin and the Pelicans, who parted ways with Stan Van Gundy after just one season. Lakers assistant Jason Kidd and Pelicans assistant Fred Vinson have also been linked to the job.
