The Purdue Boilermakers were one of the No. 1 seeds entering the NCAA tournament. They didn’t achieve their goals and today, they received some news that could impact their team next season. Their National Player of the Year Zach Edey has entered his name into the 2023 NBA Draft.
If there is a silver lining for Purdue fans it is that he is leaving his eligibility open for now. Edey made the announcement on his social media account.

Edey had an incredible season leading the Boilermakers to their number one seed. His size and athleticism are tough for many teams to matchup with. How that will translate to todays NBA which is really a guard league with 3 point shooting remains to be seen. This much is for sure, he is a massive presence in the middle and will help any team he joins.
For the 2023 season, Edey played in 34 games, and averaged 22.3 points per game. He added 12.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.1 blocks per game. One of the most consistent statistics for his 3 years with Purdue is an average of 61.9% from the field.
Edey could be a great addition for any time looking to add size in the middle. Due to his seven-foot-four frame his is more of a paint presence that an offensive shooting prospect. One thing you cannot coach is size and Edey has plenty of it. If he decides to return, it only puts Purdue back at the top of the rankings in both the NCAA and the Big10 conference.
Player can withdraw from the NBA Draft by June 12, 2023 if that have not committed to an agent.
The NBA Draft is scheduled for June 22, 2023 at the Barclays Center in New Jersey.
