Raptors Reportedly Will Consider Scottie Barnes With Fourth Pick

The Raptors have been linked to Gonzaga guard Jalen Suggs and others, but are also considering Florida State forward Scottie Barnes with the No. 4 overall pick, according to Sam Vecenie of The Athletic.Scottie Barnes

Barnes is projected to be selected in the Nos. 5-8 range, but several reports have suggested he may be climbing the draft boards. Whether those reports are real or the result of smokescreens from agents or team executives … well, remains to be seen.

“Sources certainly believe the Raptors are indeed considering Scottie Barnes in addition to the consensus top-four names,” Vecenie wrote. “Additionally, this pick is thought to be available for the right price in a trade-down scenario. But Suggs at No. 4 would be a home run for the Raptors.”

If the Raptors are indeed interested in trading down, there are a couple partners that make sense, as both the Magic (Nos. 5 and 8) and Warriors (Nos. 7 and 14) own multiple picks.

“With just over a week to go until the draft, it would seem highly likely the Raptors stay the course and take Suggs,” wrote Cody Taylor of Rookie Wire. “Barnes may be highly regarded entering the draft, but Suggs is strongly considered one of the top-four prospects this year with his ability and potential at the next level.”

Barnes is 6-foot-9 and averaged 10.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 24 games as a freshman with the Seminoles.

  1. If Cavs took Barnes at 3 I would not be upset. Motor, defensive instincts, competitiveness/passion, and his physical tools are all good omens. Things that undoubtably translate well.

The consensus top 5 we see in mocks, some are lacking in these qualities. I think 2 out of the 5 will be instant impact (Cunningham, Suggs). 3 may take more time, and might not ever reach their lofty expectations.

Barnes though, seems like he’ll be instant impact.
