Raptors assistant Sergio Scariolo is heading overseas to become the coach of Italian club of Virtus Bologna, as relayed by Emiliano Carchia of Sportando.
Scariolo, 60, will sign a multiyear contract with the team, Carchia added.
He coached for 25 years overseas before joining Nick Nurse and the Raptors prior to the 2018-19 season, the year of Toronto’s lone NBA championship.
In February, Scariolo filled in for Nurse when Nurse and five other assistants had to miss the game for health and safety protocol reasons. The Raptors beat the Rockets in that game, ad guard Kyle Lowry presented Scariolo with the game ball.
Former Raptors guard Marco Belinelli is a member of Virtus Bologna.
