Signing Carmelo Anthony Not Viewed As Priority For Celtics

While reports have surfaced linking Carmelo Anthony and the Celtics, it doesn’t seem as if it will happen anytime before training camp. Or perhaps ever.Carmelo Anthony

Per Brian Robb of MassLive.com, the Celtics don’t have interest in bringing in Anthony anytime soon. “That’s not to say the team is done shaping the roster ahead of the preseason but Anthony isn’t a priority at this point at names that could be brought in,” Robb wrote.

Clearly, Boston is looking to add some help after losing newcomer Danilo Gallinari for at least part of the season to a torn ACL. Gallinari suffered the injury at the FIBA EuroBasket.

Last week, the Boston Globe reported that talk of Anthony to the Celtics had started gaining traction.

Anthony, 38, is an unrestricted free agent after finishing his first season with the Lakers. He appeared in 69 games, averaging 13.2 points and 4.2 rebounds, coming off the bench in all but three.

The Knicks have also expressed an interest in reuniting with Anthony, per Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Bally Sports. Along with the Knicks and Lakers, Anthony has spent time with the Thunder, Rockets and Trail Blazers. He’s been coming off the bench since his run in Portland in 2020.
