Sources: Wes Unseld Jr Remains Frontrunner For Wizards Job

Nuggets associate head coach Wes Unseld Jr. has emerged as the leading candidate for the Wizards’ coaching vacancy, as Hoops Wire first reported last week and sources reiterated Thursday.Wes Unseld Jr

Also, Shams Charania and Fred Katz reported Thursday that Unseld is “emerging as the leader” for the Wizards vacancy.

Unseld Jr. the son of the late Wes Unseld, a franchise legend who won a championship as a player, before going on to serve separate stints as coach and general manager.

Meanwhile, Unseld Jr. was an assistant with the Wizards from 2005-11. Prior to joining the Nuggets in 20015, he also was an assistant with the Magic. His history with the Washington franchise makes him a natural favorite.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Bucks assistants Charles Lee and Darvin Ham are also among the three finalists.

Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard is looking to replace Scott Brooks, whose contract was not renewed after the season.
