Spurs Assistant Becky Hammon To Interview With Magic, Blazers

Spurs assistant Becky Hammon will interview for coaching vacancies with the Magic and Trail Blazers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Hammon, 44, has spent seven seasons with Gregg Popovich and the Spurs, and in December became the first woman to coach an NBA game, after Popovich was ejected. She has also been linked to the Celtics’ coaching opening.Becky Hammon

Along with that, she has interviewed for multiple vacancies over the past several offseasons, including those with the Bucks, Pacers and Cavaliers. So it’s safe to say she is considered a serious candidate.

“I think there’s several very qualified candidates and Becky, obviously, is a terrific candidate,” Celtics president and former coach Brad Stevens said before a late-April game against the Spurs. “I don’t know her well but I know what people think about her and I know how well she’s respected all across the league, by players and the coaches. So I would hope that that time is coming very soon.”

The Trail Blazers parted ways with coach Terry Stotts on June 4, while the Magic did the same with Steve Clifford the next day. Stotts and Clifford are now in the running for the Pacers job.
