Suns Notes: Booker, Paul, Williams, Free Agents

Suns shooting guard Devin Booker said the Finals loss to the Bucks will likely be tough to digest for some time.Devin Booker Jrue Holiday

“This isn’t something you want to feel. I haven’t felt a hurt like this in my life,” he told reporters after losing in Game 6.

That said, Booker kept hope alive for the future. Phoenix went all the way to the Finals after missing the playoffs for 10 straight seasons.

“I think we set a foundation and a base for our team,” Booker said. “We all have stuff to work on, and we understand that. We gotta take this hurt, bring it into the summer, and get better. …

“This feeling, I keep talking about the hurt, you don’t want this. This is what you strive for, this is what you go into the summer with. And you take it, and you use it as fuel.”

More from Phoenix

  • Veteran point guard Chris Paul never came closer to winning a title, but now can enter free agency, should he decline a $44 player option He didn’t discuss his next steps after the Game 6 loss. “It will take a while to process this or whatnot, but it’s same mentality,” Paul said. “Get back to work. I ain’t retiring, if that’s what you’re asking. That’s out. So, back to work.”
  • As Dave McMenamin of ESPN noted, this is the fourth time in Paul’s career his team held a 2-0 series lead and still lost the series. His comments made it sound as if he’ll be back with the Suns, McMenamin wrote.
  • Suns coach Monty Williams entered the Milwaukee locker room after meeting with reporters to offer congratulations. “I just wanted to come and congratulate you guys, as a man, a coach,” Williams said to the Bucks. “You guys deserved it. And I’m thankful for the experience. You guys made me a better coach, made us a better team.”
  • While the Suns didn’t emerge as champions, they did take fans on the ride of their lives, opines Dan Bickley of Arizona Sports. “Raise a glass and remember them well,” he wrote.
  • Multiple Suns enter this summer as unrestricted free agents: Cameron Payne, Torrey Craig, Frank Kaminsky, E’Twaun Moore, Langston Galloway and Abdel Nader. So it will be an important offseason for GM James Jones. Of the above list, Payne and Craig are the main names Phoenix doesn’t want to lose.

  1. McMenamin inferring blame on Paul by mentioning that stat is ridiculous. So ESPN of him. Paul’s been around long enough, and is talented enough to be in position for that to happen.

Maybe he should check the Scott Foster stats too, when reffing Chris Paul teams. Those stats are insane. And acknowledge the fact that Paul faced Foster TWICE after going up 2-0 in this series. Since he wants to cherry pick stats, cherry pick those too, Dave.
