At 27 years of age, Wainright approaches a potential career in Phoenix with several seasons of experience in international ball. Per Sam Amico of Hoops Wire, “Wainright is 6-foot-6 and played for Baylor from 2013-17. He has spent three seasons overseas, most recently with French club Strasbourg. He spent two years in Germany before that.”
The former forward/tight end from Baylor has been seen as a valuable defender and apt scorer off the bench. During his first season played with the Nürnberg Falcons in 2018, Wainright averaged 12.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists.
Wainright signed a two-year, partially guaranteed contract with the Raptors in August and was waived two months later, despite a strong showing from the former Bear. Per Hoops Rumors, Wainright will be earning “$250,000 from the Raptors this season and $125,000 in 2022/23.”
