Team USA is looking to replace Wizards star shooting guard Bradley Beal after he was placed in U.S. basketball’s health and safety protocol, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
While Wojnarowski didn’t list any candidates, Hoops Wire sources suspect a player promoted from the Select Team could take Beal’s spot, given that those players have been taking part in practice and exhibition games.
Given that criteria, Cavaliers guard Darius Garland, Pistons small forward Saddiq Bey, Spurs small forward Keldon Johnson or free agent shooting guard John Jenkins could make the cut for the Tokyo Olympics, which tip off at the end of the month.
Pistons forward Jerami Grant has also been placed in the health and safety protocol, but did not test positive for the coronavirus, per Shams Charania and Joe Vardon of The Athletic.
Team USA is 1-2 in exhibition play with two such games remaining. The Americans next face Australia on Thursday.
