Veteran Point Guard Shabazz Napier Signs Overseas Deal

Free agent point guard Shabazz Napier has agreed to a contract with Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg, the team announced.Shabazz Napier

Napier, 30, is 6-foot-0 and has played in the NBA since 2014, when he was selected by the Heat out of UConn with the No. 24 overall pick.

He has also spent time with the Magic, Trail Blazers, Nets, Timberwolves and Wizards. He did not play in the NBA this past season.

“Shabazz Napier is an excellent acquisition for our club, and I am very glad that he chose Zenit to make his first basketball step in Europe,” Zenit St. Petersburg coach Xavi Pascual said in a statement. “Shabazz is the kind of player who leads the team in offense and is very good at making important decisions. With his experience, he is a player who leads a team to create and make important decisions.

“He is very good at developing a quick offense, has great ball handling and is very versatile. We wish him only the best of luck and really want all of our fans to enjoy this season and his performance.”

Napier averaged a career-high 11.6 points and 3.8 assists in 20 games with the Wizards in 2019-20.
