Warriors’ Kevon Looney To Exercise Player Option

Free agent forward/center Kevon Looney is exercising the $5.1 million player option on his contract to return to the Warriors next season, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.Kevon Looney

Looney, 25, is 6-foot-9 and just completed his sixth season, compiling averages of 4.1 points and 5.3 rebounds. He appeared in 61 games and as Wojnarowski noted, is a career 56.6 percent shooter.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr has compared Looney to former Lakers forward Kurt Rambis, an energy-type of big man who was willing to mix it up and filled his role well.

“They’re not exactly similar players,” Kerr said this past season. “But in terms of guys who were role players, who played very important roles on championship teams — I thought that was a decent comparison.”

Meanwhile, Looney said he often studies former NBA forwards Kevin Garnett and David West.

“You can learn those small things and the fundamentals from those great guys, and just add it to the basis of your game,” Looney said. “Everybody pays attention to the points they score, but they don’t watch the screens and the rebounds. It’s all about the small things.”
