Warriors To Hire Kenny Atkinson As Lead Assistant

Former Nets coach and current Clippers assistant Kenny Atkinson is nearing a deal to join the Warriors as Steve Kerr‘s top assistant, according to Anthony Slater and Shams Charania of The Athletic.Kenny Atkinson

Atkinson would actually serve as co-lead assistant with Mike Brown, Slater and Charania added. Atkinson just finished his first season under Tyronn Lue, and next to Chauncey Billups, recently hired as the Trail Blazers’ head coach.

Along with Atkinson, the Warriors are hiring Dejan Milojević and Jama Mahlalela, as previously reported by multiple outlets.

Atkinson was at recently linked to several head-coaching vacancies, including the Magic.

He coached the Nets from 2016-20, compiling a 118-190 record and leading them to the playoffs in 2019. He was fired just before the season was paused because of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020.

Atkinson has also been an assistant with the Knicks and Hawks.
