Wilson has revealed the NBA’s official game ball starting with the 2021-22 season, announcing the change in a news release.
Spalding had served as the league’s game ball for the previous 37 years. The leather for the Wilson ball will come from the same manufacturer and the ball will continue to consist of eight panels.
“Our partnership with Wilson fittingly comes to life as we approach our 75th anniversary season,” NBA president of global partnerships Salvatore LaRocca said in a statement. “As the NBA’s official game ball for the league’s first 37 seasons, Wilson makes its return building on our shared history and looking ahead toward the continued growth of the league.”
The Wilson game ball will make its on-court debut during the NBA Draft Combine next week in Chicago (June 21-27). It will be available for purchase starting July 29 exclusively on wilson.com.
Per the statement: “Wilson’s partnership milestones with the NBA will continue to roll out throughout 2021 with announcements and activations across the WNBA, G League, NBA 2K League and Basketball Africa League, and into the NBA’s 75th anniversary season.”
