Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James confirmed on Monday that he got hurt in Game 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
James, 40, suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee.
Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won’t be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on! Hate to miss an historical event! My beautiful powerful Queen will be there holding the…

The Lakers lost to the Timberwolves in five games. James averaged 25.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.8 blocks in the series.
The leading scorer in NBA history, James appeared in 70 games for the Lakers during the regular season. He averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks. He’s still one of the best players in the league despite being the oldest active player in the NBA.
A four-time MVP, James has a player option to return to the Lakers next season.
“You don’t know what the (Lakers) roster will look like next year besides the guys that (are) locked into contracts,” James said after Game 5. “S—, I got a lot to think about myself. So I don’t know what the roster will look like. I don’t know where I stand right now.”
James joined the Lakers in the summer of 2018 after playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2014-15 to 2017-18. Los Angeles missed the postseason in 2019, won the championship in 2020, lost in the first round of the 2021 postseason, missed the postseason in 2022, lost in the conference finals in 2023 and lost in the first round of the 2024 and 2025 playoffs.
Arguably the greatest player of all time, James has played for the Cavaliers (twice), Miami Heat and Lakers. He has career averages of 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.7 blocks.
James turns 41 in December. He’s expected to play next season, but it’s unknown if he will return to the Lakers or decline his player option and sign with another team.
