One NBA scout thinks Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić will win the MVP Award and the scoring title next season.

Dončić has lost weight this offseason and is in excellent shape. He won the 2024 scoring title with the Dallas Mavericks by averaging 33.9 points when he was “out of shape.”

“Man, he looks incredible,” the NBA scout told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “He’s quicker and more explosive. He’s getting by people more easily. I think he’s on a mission, man. I think he’s gonna win MVP and the scoring title next season. He wants to get revenge on Dallas for basically fat-shaming him.”

The Mavericks shocked the sports world last season by trading Luka Dončić to the Lakers for Anthony Davis and Max Christie. Dončić was heartbroken. He threw his phone at the wall after the trade went down and cried.

The Lakers made the playoffs last season, while the Mavericks didn’t. Dončić and Co. faced the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round and were favored to win, but the Timberwolves beat Los Angeles in five games.

A five-time All-Star, Dončić lost weight this offseason by going on a gluten-free, low-sugar diet, according to Men’s Health. He has also gone on an intermittent fasting plan designed to limit inflammation and help his body recover better.

The Lakers signed Dončić to a three-year, $165 million extension on August 2. Dončić, 26, recruited Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart to Los Angeles in free agency.

A five-time All-NBA First-Team player, Dončić appeared in 28 games with the Lakers last season after the Mavericks traded him in February. He averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists. Dončić put up 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game in the Lakers-Timberwolves series.

A future Hall of Famer, Dončić enters next season with career averages of 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists with the Mavericks and Lakers. He’s already third in NBA history in points per game.

The Lakers have the second-most (17) championships in NBA history. Meanwhile, Dončić has yet to win one. He made the NBA Finals in 2024 with the Mavericks, who lost to the Boston Celtics in five games.

It will be intriguing to see if Dončić wins a ring in Los Angeles.

  1. Well if he wouldn’t have gotten fat to begin with, then there wouldn’t have been any shaming. You want a 300 million dollar contract? Then get your ass in shape and become who you are supposed to become. Stay away from Dunkin Donuts. 🏀😎
