According to Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic, the Phoenix Suns are interested in signing Danilo Gallinari.
The Detroit Pistons waived Gallinari on February 8.
“Sources informed The Republic the Suns have also shown interest in Danilo Gallinari, who was released by Detroit,” Rankin wrote.
Gallinari has played for the Washington Wizards and Pistons this season. He’s averaging 7.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 45.1% from the field, 35.5% from beyond the arc and 85.0% from the free-throw line.
Gallinari, 35, has career averages of 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists with the New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Atlanta Hawks, Wizards and Pistons. He has tore his left ACL twice.
Gallinari has appeared in 48 playoff games with the Nuggets, Clippers, Thunder and Hawks. He has career postseason averages of 13.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
The Suns are 31-22 on the season. They are in sixth place in the Western Conference standings. With All-Stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal leading the way, Phoenix is 12th in the NBA in points per game (117.4).
The Suns signed Thaddeus Young today. The Toronto Raptors traded Young to the Brooklyn Nets at the NBA trade deadline. The Nets waived Young, allowing the lefty to sign with Phoenix.
The Suns acquired Royce O’Neale from the Nets and David Roddy from the Memphis Grizzlies at the trade deadline.
