Raptors’ Scottie Barnes Undergoes Hand Surgery, Could Be Done For Season

Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes underwent surgery on his left hand in Los Angeles. The NBA star suffered a broken third metacarpal bone in his left hand on March 1 against the Golden State Warriors. 

Barnes could be done for the season. 

Raptors announce Scottie Barnes underwent surgery to repair the broken bone in his left hand. The Raptors didn't announce this, but I imagine that is it for his season. Surgery was performed in Los Angeles.

Barnes hurt himself trying to block Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga’s layup attempt in the second quarter.

Barnes is averaging 19.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks this season while shooting 47.5% from the field, 34.1% from beyond the arc and 78.1% from the free-throw line. He has 25 double-doubles and four triple-doubles.

Barnes has career averages of 16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 blocks. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Florida State. Barnes, 22, won the 2021-22 Rookie of the Year Award. 

The Raptors can sign Barnes to a rookie-scale extension this summer. All signs point toward Toronto signing Barnes to a lucrative extension. Barnes is the new franchise in the post-Pascal Siakam–OG Anunoby era. 

The Raptors are 23-38 on the season. They are in 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings. Toronto will miss the playoffs this year for the second straight campaign.
