Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob told NBA reporter Tim Kawakami of The Athletic that he doesn’t want to trade Brandin Podziemski or Jonathan Kuminga.
The Warriors are interested in acquiring Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen and multiple NBA reports have stated that Golden State would have to trade Podziemski and/or Kuminga to land Markkanen.
“I’m not going to get into specifics like that, there’s no way,” Lacob said. “(But) I don’t want to give him up, or JK. We love these guys. And Moses (Moody), Trayce (Jackson-Davis). These are good young players.
“Now, everyone can be traded. Anyone and everyone. If it means that we’re going to be better as an organization, we’re going to acquire someone that just really makes sense going forward and we felt the deal was fair and it was something we should do, there probably isn’t anyone on this team other than maybe one guy, maybe two, that couldn’t be traded.”
The Warriors missed the playoffs in 2024. Klay Thompson left the franchise for the Dallas Mavericks in free agency and Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson and De’Anthony Melton were added via free agency.
“I do view that our window is a little longer than people think,” Lacob said. “If there’s such a thing as a window. But with respect to Steph (Curry), let’s just say … I think the window’s probably longer than people give it credit for. He’s in remarkable shape. I do not see some big slowdown from Steph here. In fact, I would argue he’s one of the best players on the Olympic team.
“I don’t see it closing anytime that soon. We all have to understand that Father Time is undefeated and eventually that will be the case. But we don’t look at it, honestly, like it’s a window this year, it has to be this year, what can we do, all in. We’re always trying to make our team as absolutely good as it can be, because we’re trying to win championships.”
