One NBA analyst proposed that the New York Knicks acquire Draymond Green from the Golden State Warriors.
Collin Loring of Heavy Sports proposed the following mock trade between the Knicks and Warriors:
Knicks receive: Draymond Green
Warriors receive: Mitchell Robinson, Miles McBride, Jericho Sims, draft picks
Former NBA exec and current Athletic writer John Hollinger recently opined that Green “would make a lot of sense in New York.”
Green has three years and $77.7 million left on the four-year deal he signed with the Warriors in 2023. The final season in 2026-27 is a player option worth $27.7 million.
A four-time NBA champion, Green averaged 8.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.9 blocks this past season while shooting 49.7% from the field, 39.5% from beyond the arc and 73.0% from the free-throw line.
Golden State drafted Green with the 35th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. Green has career averages of 8.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks. He has made four All-Star teams, eight All-Defensive teams and two All-NBA teams.
Green also won the 2016-17 Defensive Player of the Year Award.
The Knicks could start Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, Julius Randle and Green if New York’s front office acquired Green from Golden State.
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau, who signed an extension this offseason, is known to be a huge fan of Green. Brunson also signed an extension and Randle could sign one too.
The Warriors will look different next season. Klay Thompson left the franchise for the Dallas Mavericks in free agency. Golden State added Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson and De’Anthony Melton after losing Thompson.
The Knicks are expected to compete for the championship next season after acquiring Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets.
New York lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the 2024 playoffs in seven games, while Golden State missed the postseason after losing the 9-10 play-in game to the Sacramento Kings.
