Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis is one of the best players in NBA history. However, Sacramento Kings big man Domantas Sabonis makes him look like an average player.
The Lakers lost to the Kings (again) last night (3/13) by a final score of 120-107. Sacramento swept Los Angeles this season and Davis is now 0-10 in his career against Sabonis.
“He’s a physical player,” Davis said of Sabonis, via The Athletic. “Just try to match his physicality. Make him take a lot of tough shots. He just hurt us on the glass. …We missed a lot of shots, a lot of defensive rebounds. But offensively, is where we try to limit, for them, when he gets rebounds. We’ve got to limit that. But, he’s an All-Star, been an All-Star. He’s a good player.”
Sabonis put up 17 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists against the Lakers while shooting 6-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. The lefty leads the NBA in rebounds, rebounds per game, double-doubles and triple-doubles.
Davis finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds versus the Kings while shooting 7-of-18 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the foul line. The Lakers were only down by four at halftime but were outscored 28-17 in the third quarter.
“We had a 17-point quarter,” Davis said. “We had a tough shooting night. I think the turnovers kinda hurt us. And then offensive rebounding. … It’s tough. I think we did a good job of protecting the paint, it was just the outside shot that beat us tonight. Trying to help our guys out to guard De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk. They can get downhill. Trying to help them, help our guys, when they get downhill, and they did a great job spraying out.”
The Lakers are 36-31. They are in ninth place in the West.
Meanwhile, the Kings are 38-27. They are in sixth place in the West.
