According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Los Angeles Lakers have “zero intention” of trading Austin Reaves for De’Aaron Fox.
Klutch Sports Group knows this, which is why Fox doesn’t have the Lakers on his trade wishlist.
“Among the reasons why the Lakers are not Fox’s preferred destination: Klutch has direct knowledge of many Lakers dealings thanks to its representation of LeBron James and Anthony Davis,” Fischer wrote. “Which means Klutch knows, as sources tell The Stein Line, that the Lakers have zero intention of parting with Sacramento’s presumed top target in any Fox discussions: Austin Reaves.”
Fox hasn’t requested a trade from the Sacramento Kings.
However, he’s open to being traded to the San Antonio Spurs.
“Fox’s preferred destination, as has been widely reported, is San Antonio,” Fischer wrote.
One of the best point guards in the NBA, Fox is averaging 25.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.2 assists this season while shooting 46.8% from the field, 32.1% from beyond the arc and 82.9% from the free-throw line. He’s making $34.8 million.
Meanwhile, Reaves is averaging 18.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists while shooting 44.6% from the floor, 36.1% from 3 and 83.8% from the foul line. He’s making $12.9 million.
The Lakers are looking to acquire another big man at the deadline after Davis said he wants to play the 4.
Los Angeles won the 2020 championship with Davis at the 4 and JaVale McGee/Dwight Howard at the 5.
“I only started playing the five in 2021,” Davis said after the Lakers beat the Boston Celtics. “I’d have stretches, but I was primarily a four. So my whole career I’ve been playing the four. And we’ve seen how I play. I just feel a little bit more effective (at the four). I mean, (playing the five) has its advantages and disadvantages. But the front office knows that. I’ve told them that every year I’ve been here. So it’s nothing new. But I just feel like, personally, I’m a better player at the four.”
