According to NBA reporter Law Murray of The Athletic, Ben Simmons is looking for a winning environment and stability with his next team.
Simmons will meet with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets, according to multiple NBA reports. He was bought out by the Brooklyn Nets.
Simmons has appeared in 33 games this season. He’s averaging 6.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists while shooting 54.7% from the field and 69.2% from the free-throw line.
A three-time All-Star, Simmons has career averages of 13.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists. He has played for the Philadelphia 76ers and Nets.
The Sixers drafted Simmons with the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft out of LSU. Simmons is 28.
A lefty, Simmons is a gifted passer, defender and rebounder. However, he can’t shoot. The Melbourne native has made only five 3-pointers in his career.
The Cavaliers were busy at the NBA trade deadline. They traded Georges Niang and Caris LeVert to the Atlanta Hawks for De’Andre Hunter.
“The acquisition of De’Andre Hunter and the potential impact a player of this caliber can bring to Cleveland is immeasurable,” Cavaliers GM Koby Altman said. “His defensive versatility, in addition to his ability to make shots from the perimeter strengthens our overall depth to an elite level. We were presented with a great opportunity with this trade, one that was beneficial for the short- and long-term future of this franchise. While it’s always difficult to part ways with players who have meant so much to our success, we believe De’Andre, at 27-years-old, aligns with our long-term vision of sustainable success and ultimately competing for Championships.”
In his final game with the Hawks, Hunter put up 22 points and 10 rebounds against the San Antonio Spurs. The wing is averaging 19.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists this season while shooting 46.1% from the field, 39.3% from beyond the arc and 85.8% from the free-throw line.
