If superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo requests a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason, one NBA analyst thinks the San Antonio Spurs should trade for him.
Dan Favale of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Bucks and Spurs:
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, No. 2 pick, No. 14 pick, Atlanta’s 2027 first-round pick, 2029 first-round pick, 2031 first-round pick (most favorable of San Antonio or Minnesota)
San Antonio Spurs Receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo
The Bucks signed Antetokounmpo to a three-year, $175 million extension in October 2023.
Antetokounmpo, 30, will make $54,126,380 next season.
The Spurs would have a dangerous “Big 3” of Antetokounmpo, Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox if this trade idea happened.
Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP, a one-time Finals MVP, a one-time Defensive Player of the Year and a nine-time All-Star. He has spent his entire career with the Bucks.
A future Hall of Famer, Antetokounmpo has career averages of 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks.
Antetokounmpo doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract. He averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks for the Bucks this season in 67 games.
Milwaukee won the 2021 championship against the Phoenix Suns. However, the franchise has won only one postseason series since then.
The Bucks will not trade Antetokounmpo unless he requests a trade, source told Hoops Wire.
“This is a lot for the Spurs to send out, but they’d end up with a core of Giannis, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Fox and Wembanyama,” Favale wrote. “That’s a contender with a pretty open-ended window.
“It would eventually get prohibitively expensive, but they have two years left before Wemby’s rookie-scale deal expires, giving them adequate time to figure out the new dynamics and flesh out the supporting cast accordingly.”
The Spurs haven’t made the playoffs since 2019. Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich is no longer the head coach. He stepped down and will work in the front office now.
The new head coach of the Spurs is Mitch Johnson.
