Ingram is seeking a $210 million extension.

The New Orleans Pelicans are open to trading Ingram since they don’t want to pay him a max extension.

“Ingram, with one All-Star appearance on his resume like Lauri Markkanen, has only one season left on his current contract and is said to be seeking a four-year contract extension worth nearly $210 million,” Stein wrote in his latest NBA article on Substack. “The Pelicans have made it clear that they won’t go to those lengths to re-sign him and, while various teams have explored Ingram trades since the offseason began in earnest, no other team willing to sign the 26-year-old at those numbers has yet emerged … with league sources saying that Ingram’s camp has also joined the efforts to find one.”

Ingram is in the final year of his contract. He’ll make $36 million next season.

A Duke product, Ingram averaged 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks in 2023-24 while shooting 49.2% from the floor, 35.5% from 3 and 80.1% from the free-throw line.

The Oklahoma City Thunder swept the Pelicans in the first round of the 2024 playoffs.

Ingram has career averages of 19.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.6 blocks with the Los Angeles Lakers and Pelicans. He won the 2019-20 Most Improved Player of the Year Award.

The Pelicans acquired Ingram from the Lakers in 2019 in the blockbuster Anthony Davis trade.

New Orleans hasn’t won a playoff series with Ingram.

“Is there a compromise number with the Pelicans that can be hashed out on an Ingram extension to unexpectedly extend his stay in New Orleans? Or would he actually consider playing out the final season of his contract at $36 million — with the likes of Herb Jones and Trey Murphy III vying for increased roles and New Orleans known to be searching for a new center above all — to become a free agent next summer? The Pelicans presumably want no part of the latter scenario, either,” Stein wrote.
