According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Los Angeles Clippers are interested in Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry.
Lowry is an unrestricted free agent, while Paul has a non-guaranteed contract with the Golden State Warriors for next season.
“The Clippers, I’m told, should be added to the list of teams that could emerge as a suitor for potential free agent Chris Paul,” Stein wrote. “Caveats are immediately required in this situation, since Paul might not even make it to free agency if the Warriors decide next month to keep him or trade hin to a team that wants to keep him.
“I nonetheless heard this week that Paul and Kyle Lowry, whose free agency is looming after finishing last season in Philadelphia, are veteran guards said to interest the Clippers … with a further variable to factor in stemming from Russell Westbrook‘s still-to-be determined status. Westbrook has a $4 million player option for next season that he must decide on by June 29.”
Paul appeared in 58 games for the Warriors this season. He averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.8 assists while shooting 44.1% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc and 82.7% from the free-throw line.
All $30 million of Paul’s contract for next season is non-guaranteed. CP3 used to play for the Clippers.
The Warriors have until June 28 to either guarantee Paul’s $30 million salary for next season, waive him or trade him.
Lowry played for the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers this season. He averaged 8.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 60 games while shooting 43.2% overall, 39.2% from 3 and 84.0% from the foul line.
One of the best point guards in NBA history, Paul has career averages of 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 9.4 assists. He’s still looking to win his first championship.
Lowry won the 2019 title with the Toronto Raptors. He has career averages of 14.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.2 assists.
The Clippers lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of this year’s playoffs in six games.
