According to NBA front office insider Bobby Marks of ESPN, the Miami Heat aggressively tried to acquire DeMar DeRozan.
However, no team wanted Duncan Robinson and his massive contract. The guard will make $19.4 million next season.
DeRozan joined the Sacramento Kings via a three-team sign-and-trade deal involving the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.
Bobby Marks: “Heat fans want more… they tried as heck to get DeMar DeRozan, nobody wanted Duncan Robinson, no offense. They had one first round pick to trade. They wanted Tyus Jones. They couldn’t make a deal here”pic.twitter.com/cFIy5z5IHa

DeRozan appeared in 79 games for the Bulls in 2023-24. The USC product averaged 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.6 blocks while shooting 48.0% from the floor, 33.3% from beyond the arc and 85.3% from the free-throw line.
A future Hall of Famer, DeRozan has career averages of 21.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Toronto Raptors, Spurs and Bulls. He’s made three All-NBA teams and six All-Star teams.
The Kings now have a “Big 3” of DeRozan, De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. Fox and Malik Monk heavily recruited DeRozan to Sacramento, sources told Hoops Wire.
The Heat lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round of this year’s postseason in five games. Jimmy Butler didn’t play because of a knee injury. The All-Star will make $48.8 million next season. He has a player option worth $52.4 million for the 2025-26 season.
According to NBA reporter Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Heat are “not shopping” Butler, who plans to become a free agent next offseason.
“Butler originally wanted an extension from the Heat this summer, but then changed his mind after Miami did not offer one,” Jackson wrote. “He now intends to play out this season and not sign an extension with any team and will become a free agent in the summer of 2025. The Heat is not shopping Butler, according to a source.”
