Sacramento Kings big man Domantas Sabonis has tied Kevin Love for the most consecutive double-doubles since the ABA-NBA merger.
Sabonis has recorded a double-double in 53 straight games.
“Obviously a big, big accomplishment by Domas,” Kings head coach Mike Brown said. “But it’s like clockwork for him with the 14 rebounds and 21 points.”

Sabonis is having a terrific season for the Kings. The lefty is averaging 20.0 points, 13.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.6 blocks while shooting 60.8% from the field, 40.8% from beyond the arc and 71.2% from the free-throw line.
The 27-year-old Sabonis leads the NBA in rebounds, rebounds per game, defensive rebounds, double-doubles and triple-doubles.
Sabonis has career averages of 15.7 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Indiana Pacers and Kings. He was the 11th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.
The Kings are 41-29 on the season. They are in seventh place in the Western Conference standings. Brown’s squad is eighth in the NBA in points per game and 18th in points per game allowed.
If the regular season ended today, the Kings would face the Dallas Mavericks in the 7-8 play-in tournament game at home. Sacramento is only a half-game back of the Phoenix Suns for the sixth spot in the West. Seeds 1-6 automatically qualify for the 2024 playoffs.
The Kings lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in seven games. It will be fascinating to see how far Sacramento goes in this year’s postseason if the team makes it.
