One NBA analyst proposed that the Cleveland Cavaliers acquire Dorian Finney-Smith, Dennis Schroder and Day’Ron Sharpe from the Brooklyn Nets.
Ishaan Bhattacharya of Fadeaway World proposed the following mock trade between the Cavaliers and Nets:
Brooklyn Nets Receive: Darius Garland
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: Dorian Finney-Smith, Dennis Schroder, Day’Ron Sharpe, 2029 First-Round Pick (BKN)
Finney-Smith averaged 8.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks for the Nets in 2023-24 while shooting 42.1% from the field, 34.8% from beyond the arc and 71.7% from the free-throw line. He’ll make $14.9 million in 2024-25.
Finney-Smith has career averages of 8.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks with the Dallas Mavericks and Nets.
Schroder played for the Toronto Raptors and Nets last season. He averaged 14.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks while shooting 43.5% from the field, 37.5% from 3 and 83.6% from the foul line.
Schroder, who has career averages of 14.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.1 blocks, will make $13 million next season in the final year of his contract. He’s played for the Atlanta Hawks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Raptors and Nets.
Sharpe averaged 6.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.4 steals and 0.7 blocks for the Nets last season in 61 games while shooting 57.1% from the field, 26.7% from beyond the arc and 61.0% from the free-throw line. He’ll make $3.9 million next season.
The 22-year-old Sharpe has career averages of 6.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.6 blocks. He’s spent his entire NBA career with the Nets.
“The Cavs address the lack of wing play on their roster by acquiring Finney-Smith and adding much-needed center depth behind Jarrett Allen with Sharpe,” Bhattacharya wrote in his NBA trade proposal. “Schroder is a decent point guard replacement for Garland as the Cavaliers create a more well-rounded roster, with the Nets putting together the pieces of their future contending group immediately.”
The Cavaliers lost to the Celtics in the second round of the 2024 playoffs in five games. They beat the Orlando Magic in the first round in seven games.
Meanwhile, the Nets missed the 2024 postseason. They traded Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks this offseason.
