One source described these potential treatments as “radical” given the seemingly routine nature of Embiid’s original surgery.

The outlook is increasingly grim, as NBA sources have noted a concerning downturn in the condition of Joel Embiid. Instead of progressing in his rehabilitation, the reigning MVP has reportedly deteriorated in recent weeks. “For some reason, what should have been a routine rehab and a routine return to play has gone horribly wrong,” The Inquirer reported. With these ominous treatment possibilities on the table, Embiid’s season—and possibly part of next season—could be in jeopardy.

Medical experts consulted by The Inquirer suggest that some of these procedures could sideline an athlete for six months to a year, which is especially critical given the procedure is likely to happen in the off-season.
