During an interview with NBA reporter Kelly Iko of The Athletic, Eric Gordon said the Phoenix Suns have to “show a level of dominance” to finish the season.
The Suns are expected to compete for the title this season with Gordon, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal leading the way.
“We got to show a level of dominance,” Gordon said. “We have to do that. And for us to propel ourselves going into the playoffs to show what we’re made of. We’ve done it in strides, but we got to do it a lot more to see if we can be a championship team.”
The Suns are 34-24. They are in sixth place in the Western Conference standings.
“We know we have a good team,” Gordon said. “We’ve hit our strides here and there during the season, but we just got to keep our poise and we’ll be OK.”
The Suns are 11th in the NBA in points per game and 15th in points per game allowed. They have the 11th-best net rating (+3.0).
Gordon, 35, is averaging 12.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks this season while shooting 45.7% from the field, 38.9% from beyond the arc and 81.5% from the free-throw line.
“I can always bring effective scoring and playmaking when things get tough,” Gordon said. “And I’m never afraid of taking the shot toward the end of the game. But when I get going, I get going. I like to change the game. So that’s what I’m here for — if some of these guys ain’t playing well, I can up my game and be ready to play.”
Gordon is looking to win his first championship. It will be fascinating to see how far the Suns go in the 2024 playoffs.
“We’re all in for the now,” Gordon said. “And that’s the situation that every player desires to be in. That’s what I look forward to and a lot of these guys look forward to also.”
