According to NBA insider Logan Murdock of The Ringer, the Golden State Warriors will “aggressively” shop Andrew Wiggins this offseason.
Negotiations with Klay Thompson have also “stalled.”
Thompson is an unrestricted free agent.
“League sources believe Andrew Wiggins, who struggled to find a consistent role last season, will be aggressively dangled in trade talks. … But according to league sources, negotiations between Thompson and Golden State’s front office have stalled as free agency draws near, and the two sides remain far apart on an agreement,” Murdock reported.
The Warriors missed the playoffs this year. They went 46-36 and lost the 9-10 play-in game to the Sacramento Kings.
Wiggins averaged 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.6 blocks in 2023-24 while shooting 45.3% from the field, 35.8% from beyond the arc and 75.1% from the free-throw line. The NBA champion will make $26.3 million next season.
One of the greatest shooters in NBA history, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.5 blocks in 2023-24 while shooting 43.2% from the floor, 38.7% from 3 and 92.7% from the free-throw line.
The Warriors drafted Thompson with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft out of Washington State. Thompson has made five All-Star teams, two All-NBA teams and one All-Defensive team with the Warriors. He has helped the franchise win four titles.
Thompson has career averages of 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks. He turns 35 next season.
Wiggins has career averages of 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.7 blocks with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Warriors. He won the 2014-15 Rookie of the Year Award with the Timberwolves and the 2022 championship with the Warriors.
Golden State is interested in trading for Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George, who could pick up his 2024-25 player option and request a trade.
LAC has until June 30 to sign George to an extension.
One of the best players in the NBA, George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.5 blocks for the Clippers in 2023-24 while shooting 47.1% from the field, 41.3% from beyond the arc and 90.7% from the free-throw line.
