According to NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Houston Rockets are open to discussing Jalen Green trades.
The Rockets can sign Green to a rookie-scale extension this offseason. If that doesn’t happen, Green will become a restricted free agent next offseason.
“While many in Houston still believe in Green’s abilities to be a featured long-term scoring option for them at the shooting guard position, the Rockets have shown more of a willingness to discuss his name in trade situations around the league, sources said,” Siegel reported.
The Rockets tried to trade Green to the Brooklyn Nets for Mikal Bridges, who was traded to the New York Knicks, NBA sources told Hoops Wire.
Houston was also open to moving Green for Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant, Miami Heat All-Star Jimmy Butler and Paul George when he was on the Los Angeles Clippers, sources said.
The 22-year-old Green averaged 19.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.3 blocks this past season while shooting 42.3% from the field, 33.2% from beyond the arc and 80.4% from the free-throw line.
The Rockets went 41-41 in 2023-24. They missed the playoffs for the fourth straight season.
Houston drafted Green with the second overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Green has career averages of 19.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.3 blocks.
According to NBA insiders Sam Amick and Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Rockets are interested in Donovan Mitchell, Devin Booker and Zion Williamson. However, Mitchell, Booker and Williamson are not available.
Mitchell signed an extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Booker and Williamson are the franchise players on the Suns and New Orleans Pelicans, respectively.
Houston hasn’t had a superstar since James Harden, who requested a trade in 2020-21 and was sent to the Nets. Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul and Dwight Howard also played for the Rockets during the Harden era.
