According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Minnesota Timberwolves offered Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to the Phoenix Suns for Kevin Durant.
The Timberwolves were one of the many teams who tried to acquire Durant at this year’s NBA trade deadline.
Minnesota traded Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks for Randle and DiVincenzo.
“Durant drew significant trade interest from several teams ahead of the deadline, including the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, and Minnesota Timberwolves,” Scotto wrote. “While Durant ultimately remained in Phoenix, he’s expected to come up again in trade discussions this offseason as he enters the final year of his contract worth $54.7 million for the 2025-26 season.
“The Timberwolves aggressively pursued Durant in trade talks before the deadline and are expected to circle the wagon again this summer, but were unwilling to part with star guard Anthony Edwards and versatile forward Jaden McDaniels in discussions, league sources told HoopsHype. Instead, Timberwolves forward Julius Randle and guard Donte DiVincenzo were discussed as part of trade talks for Durant, league sources told HoopsHype.”
The Timberwolves are expected to pursue Durant again this summer.
Durant, who doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, will make $54.7 million next season in the final year of his deal.
One of the best scorers in NBA history, Durant is a four-time scoring champion, a two-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP and a one-time MVP. The future Hall of Famer has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
During an interview with NBA reporter Tim MacMahon of ESPN, Suns owner Mat Ishbia spoke about Durant’s future with Phoenix.
“I’ll just say that we’re going to evaluate in the offseason,” Ishbia said. “We’re going to find a way to win, and it’s probably a lot easier winning with Kevin Durant than without him. But at the same time, yes, if we’re not good enough in this iteration of the Phoenix Suns, we’re going to find a way to be better next year.”
