The Kings are monitoring 76ers guard Matisse Thybulle as a potential trade candidate, as relayed by Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
While it’s not been determined if Thybulle is being made available, he is indeed the type of defensive-minded wing that coach Mike Brown and Sacramento are looking to land.
Per Stein, as the Kings close in on their first playoff appearance since 2006 — or since before the invention of the iPhone — they have started to “ponder the pursuit of a more defensive-minded option on the perimeter.”
Thybulle, 25, is 6-foot-5 and in his fourth NBA season, all with Philadelphia. He is averaging career-lows in nearly every statistical category, including just 12.1 minutes, in 45 games.
In related news, Stein wrote that the Kings are unlikely to buy out the contract of forward/center Richaun Holmes if they’re unable to trade him, refuting previous speculation.
The Kings (28-21) currently sit in first place in the Pacific Division and third place in the Western Conference.
