NBA icon Magic Johnson ripped Anthony Edwards after the Minnesota Timberwolves guard said Michael Jordan was the only player with skill back in the day.
If you missed it, here’s what Edwards said during an interview with The Wall Street Journal:
“I didn’t watch it back in the day so I can’t speak on it,” Edwards said. “They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don’t think anybody had skill back then. [Michael Jordan] was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean? So that’s why when they saw Kobe [Bryant], they were like, ‘Oh, my God.’ But now everybody has skill.”
Johnson, one of the greatest players in NBA history, didn’t hold back while reacting to Edwards’ quote.
“I don’t never respond to a guy that’s never won a championship,” Johnson told Stephen A. Smith. “There’s not nothing to really say. He didn’t win a college championship. I don’t even know if he won a high school championship.”
Johnson is one of the most decorated players of all time. He won five championships, three MVPs and three Finals MVPs with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Magic made 12 All-Star teams and 10 All-NBA teams.
A Hall of Famer, Johnson averaged 19.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 11.2 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.4 blocks during his legendary career. He’s universally recognized as the best point guard in NBA history.
As for Jordan, he’s universally recognized as the greatest basketball player ever. He won five MVPs, 10 scoring titles, six championships and six Finals MVPs with the Chicago Bulls.
MJ also won one Defensive Player of the Year Award.
Jordan has career averages of 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 0.8 blocks with the Bulls and Washington Wizards. He’s first in NBA history in points per game, fourth in steals, fifth in field goals and second in player efficiency rating.
MJ holds the NBA record for most points (63) scored in a playoff game.
