According to NBA insider Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal, the Dallas Mavericks are expected to offer All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving a new three-year deal this summer.
Irving has a player option worth $43,962,963 for next season. The Mavericks want Irving to decline that player option so they can sign him to a new deal this summer.
Irving tore the ACL in his left knee on March 3 versus the Sacramento Kings. He’s expected to return in January 2026.
“Irving has a $43 million player option for 2025–26, but league sources expect the Mavericks to offer him a new three-year deal, aligning his timeline with those of both Anthony Davis and Nico Harrison,” Afseth wrote. “That alignment is intentional. This is Harrison’s vision now: a team built around Davis and Irving, with a supporting cast shaped by his philosophy. Re-signing Irving is not just about retaining talent; it’s also about keeping a key player and about doubling down on the most audacious gamble of Harrison’s tenure — one that removed Dončić, alienated the fanbase, and placed all bets on a controversial but undeniably gifted guard who, for now, remains the face of the franchise.”
Irving appeared in 50 games this season for the Mavericks, who traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The one-time NBA champion averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists while shooting 47.3% from the field, 40.1% from beyond the arc and 91.6% from the free-throw line.
Irving has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets and Mavericks. He’s a nine-time All-Star with career averages of 23.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.6 assists.
Irving helped the Cavaliers win the 2016 championship against the Golden State Warriors. He hit the game-winning shot in Game 7 over Warriors guard Stephen Curry.
The Mavericks missed the playoffs this year after making the NBA Finals last year.
