The Mavericks lost to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals, while the Blazers missed the playoffs.

“Several teams, including the Mavs, have checked in on Jerami Grant’s situation in Portland,” Begley wrote. “Grant, 30, is entering the second season of a five-year, $160 million contract with the Trail Blazers. According to ESPN Insider Bobby Marks, the salary cap is expected to rise consistently over the next few seasons due to the NBA’s new broadcast rights deal. This is relevant because Grant’s deal will be viewed much differently in 2-3 years than it is today.”

Grant appeared in 54 games for the Blazers in 2023-24. He averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks while shooting 45.1% from the field, 40.2% from beyond the arc and 81.7% from the free-throw line.

Grant will make $29.8 million next season. He signed a five-year, $160 million contract with the Blazers last July.

The 30-year-old Grant has career averages of 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.0 blocks with the Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and Blazers.

The Mavericks will attempt to trade Tim Hardaway Jr. this offseason. Hardaway Jr. will make $16.2 million next season in the final year of his contract.

Dallas, of course, is building around stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Along with Grant, the Mavericks are interested in Tobias Harris, who is an unrestricted free agent. Harris is not expected to re-sign with the Philadelphia 76ers.
