Report: Mavericks Offered Luka Doncic To Timberwolves For Anthony Edwards

According to NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Dallas Mavericks offered Luka Doncic to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Anthony Edwards

The Mavericks and Timberwolves didn’t make progress on a deal, so Dallas traded Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis

“While this spicy what-if scenario never gained any traction, league sources tell The Athletic that the Mavericks and Timberwolves informally discussed the prospect of swapping Dončić for 23-year-old, three-time All-Star Anthony Edwards in the weeks before the Lakers deal went down,” Amick wrote. “More specifically, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison reached out to the Timberwolves and asked if there was any chance they’d be willing to trade Edwards. He was promptly told no. The Timberwolves, league sources say, were stunned that Dallas was contemplating parting ways with Dončić.”

The Mavericks shocked the NBA world by trading Doncic, who is only 26. Doncic appeared in 422 games with Dallas. He averaged 28.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists and made five All-Star teams and five All-NBA teams.

According to NBA reporter Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, Doncic has alternated between shock, sadness and anger since the Mavericks traded him to the Lakers.

“Those close to him say he has alternated between shock, sadness and anger in the weeks since the trade,” Shelburne wrote. “Every day that he goes home to the Los Angeles hotel he’s living in with his fiancée and young daughter is a reminder of how much his life has been upended.”

Doncic is averaging 19.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists with the Lakers. He and LeBron James are 4-2 together.

“It’s amazing,” Doncic said about playing for the Lakers. “I think the atmosphere has been amazing. Even when I’m playing bad — I don’t think I’ve had a good game here yet — but every time I check in, they cheer for me. So this is an unbelievable feeling to be here.”
